As a psychologist specializing in character development, I am often asked to speak to young people about sex. I usually begin by saying:. Whichever group you belong to, I'd like to offer you a way of thinking about sex—a way I believe will help you make good sexual decisions, ones that will help you build a good character and lead a good and happy life. In fact, about half of high-school-age teens are virgins. Furthermore, the National Survey of Family Growth found a drop in adolescent sexual activity for both males and females, ages 15 to 19, for the first time since the survey began in According to a number of studies, students who get good grades, who have goals for the future, who abstain from drugs and alcohol, and who often attend religious services are all significantly less likely to have had sex than students who do not possess these qualities.

During the early grade-school years, children's natural interest in their own bodies starts to give way — at least some of the time — to an increasingly compelling interest in their social world. They're busy trying to make and keep friends and develop their social and physical skills on the playground and ball field. Their interest in sex at this age can vary widely. In many grade-schoolers it surfaces only briefly, now and then — just one of many other things they're curious about. Other children are more consistently curious about sex and demand more detail than before. Your grade-schooler is also exposed to lots of opinions, ideas, and misconceptions that come from other children.
Republicans Have Sex Ed All Wrong
AP — A couple were convicted Friday of sexually abusing their young son, who testified he had frequent sexual encounters with his mom while his dad offered him instructions or tips on what to do. The year-old boy told jurors at his parents' sex abuse trial that he began having intercourse with his mom on his eighth birthday, about a year after his dad began showing him pornography. The northeastern Pennsylvania boy, who was home-schooled, said he didn't know that sex with his mom was wrong until years later, when he was placed in foster care. The mother and the father took the witness stand in their own defense and denied the allegations. But a jury in Wilkes-Barre convicted the mother, 45, of rape of a child, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and incest.
A neighborhood in Cambodia is a global hotspot for the child sex trade. The people selling the children? Too often, their parents. W hen a poor family in Cambodia fell afoul of loan sharks, the mother asked her youngest daughter to take a job.
